Tor Megiddo, part IX, Tech Priest & Robots

Together with my Warband i brought a couple of NPCs for the game: the Abalone Mutant and a Tech-Priest with a couple if robots.

The Tech-Priest was a quite simple conversion. It's based on a Tech-Priest Dominus with Poxwalker and Tyranid arms. The scythe is from a Death Guard upgrade pack from Forge World, and the head is taken from a Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch. I used very stiff guitar strings as cables. The cables coming out from under his robes are the only thing that touches the base, so if you see the miniature from the right angle it really looks like it's hoovering over the ground.

I finished the Tech-Priest the day before I left for Helsinki. So I had to paint it really fast. The robes and arms were painted by quickly building up the highlights with a sponge before applying washes in the recesses. The metals were done with drybrushing, heavy washes and extreme edgehighlights. My favourite part of the miniature is the reflection on the scythe blade. This was done by glazing orange, red and brown GW shades over a light silver colour.

The robots were originally part of my Genestealer Cult project. They were supposed to go with my two larger Babyface-Walkers. I use dark green bases on my Genestealer Cult miniatures. This work really well with the orange and bone colours of my Genestealer Cultists, but not on dark metal robots.  The bright orange desert bases of Tor Megiddo really gave these miniatures a new life!

Black Por part XIII: The second Minotaur

The last three models I converted for the Vortapt IV campaing is finally painted.

Pestigors come in all shapes and sizes! I really like painting large areas of flesh, and decided to make another big one. This was a really easy conversion, using one of the Ogres from the Warhammer Fantasy Chaos Warshrines as a base. The left arm is from the Blightkings and the other one is from FW Gal Vorback. The Skull is from a Tomb Kings horse, with antlers and horns from the dryads.

Black Pox part XI: The Crimson Acolyte

Last week I shared three new miniatures for my Nurgle Pestigor warband. Here's the first one painted:

The Crimson Acolyte (right) standing beside her master, The Crimson Queen (left).

As I've mentioned before, the Crimson Queen was once a Tech Priestess. In her former life, serving the Imperium, she had several followers. Some of them followed her to Vortapt IV, and helped her to take control of the Pestigors in the Underhive. Now they are known as Crimson Acolytes.

This model is based on the Warhammer Fantasy Necromancer with a Banshee head. Most of the tach bits and her left arm are taken from Ballistaris Cawl.

The orange and skin were painted using only washes over a Corax White undercoat, the same painting style i used on the Pestigors.

Black Pox part VIII: The Crimson Queen

It's almost a month since we played the first part of the Vortapt IV campaign. I've finally gotten around to photograph the newest members of my Nurgle warband. The first one is the Crimson Queen:

This is the warband's leader, an ex Tech-Priestess. She was based on the lower body of a Tech Priest Dominus (the third time I converted third model) and the torso from a Tomb Banshee. The head and arms are taken from a Sister of Silence, with antlers from a Blightking. I tried to paint this model in the same style as the Pestigors, using only washed over a corax white undercoat. The orange was done using several layers of GW orange shade. I added some red and green shades in the recesses to get a more interesting finish. The skin was painted the same way as the skin on the pestigors, using a little less green to make her look more human. Check the skin tutorial I made HERE.

Black Pox part VI: Second Minotaur and Tech Abomination

I've put together two new models for the Nurgle Pestigor warband I'm working on for the VortaptIV project.

Mikkel gave me one of the mutant bodies from the Chaos Warshrine, and I quickly decided to use it for another Minotaur. I've been wanting to convert one of these models for a long time, and finally got my hands on one. I really like the nasty looking fat stomach.

The second model is  a Tech Abomination made by the Crimson Queen. When she finds beings beyond saving from the Black Pox, she tries to give them new life.
The model is based on a drawing by John Blanche.

Black Pox part V: The Crimson Queen WIP

The leader of my Pestigor warband is a being called the Crimson Queen. She is an ex Tech Priestess.

The Queen has turned her back on the Imperium to find greater power elsewhere. On the planet Vortapt IV, the fourth planet in the Vortapt System, she discovers a group of Abhumans/Pestigors. This group is slowly dying of the plague, the Black Pox. The Crimson Queen provides medicine and mechanical augmentations for the dying Abhumans, saving them from their imminent death. They start treating her as a saint, and she quickly becomes the leader of the group.

I made the first version of the Crimson Queen using a Tech-Priest Dominus, but when the new version came out, I changed my mind. This version of the model is based on the new Belisarus Cawl model. I still have some work left to do on her, but I really like where this is going!

I really like the silhouette she gets with wings, but I'm not sure if they're a good mach to the rest of her. What do you think?

Armies on Parade part III: The Reaper

This time I have a Tech-Priest to show you. I have called him The Reaper for obvious reasons. His tall skeleton-like figure, the long scythe looking axe and his skull makes him look like The Grim Reaper. The crow on his shoulder, and the undead gun-servitor also makes him look this way. The Reaper is one of my favourite models in the army.

The model is based on a FW Mechanicum Thallax Cohrt body, with a FW servo-skull as a head, Nurgle axe and bird, and terminator hand and shield. The servitor is a classic skeleton torso armed with with a plasma pistol and mechanicum parts.

Tech-Priest Dominus

I just painted up my Tech-Priest. The model was converted yesterday, and painted today. I usually use more than one evening painting up a project like this. So I'm quite pleased that it turned out as well as it did. I tried to recall the same colour-scheme used on my Electro-Priests, and I think I got the colour on the robe about right. This is the first model of the year, and if I work with the same efficiency on future models, there will be a lot more!
