Nurgle Giant

I finished this Nurgle Giant last week! It has been on my desk half painted for six months, so it was really nice to finally finish it.

The conversion was quite simple. It's based on a GW Giant (or Aleguzzler Gargant as they are currently called). I sculpted the tentacles and helmet in Greenstuff. The tires on it's shoulders are rubber tires from a toy car. This conversion was very much inspired by the large mutants in the video game RAGE.

I painted this beast like I've painted the rest of my newer Nurgle miniatures; glazes over a white undercoat. On this one I used mostly fleshshade, crimson and orange washes.

Competition: Great Unclean One

2018 will be the year of the Great Unclean one. With a brand new miniature from GW representing the Greater Daemon, I think it’s time for a competition on this blog.

How to enter the competition:

Make your representation of a Great Unclean One.

You can choose whatever artform/miniature you want. With the new GUO from GW I hope to see a lot of entries based on this miniature, but you don’t have to use it. I’ll accept older versions of the daemon, the Forge World version or your own sculpts. I’ll even accept GUO artworks (paintings, drawings, digital art, etc.). The only criterion is that it has to be a finished representation of the GUO. If you enter a miniature it has to be fully painted. You don’t have to convert the miniature, but it’s recommended to do so to make it unique.

If you enter a miniature, you have to send a minimum of two pictures. Front and back. You can send other angles/details if you like, but no more than five pictures per entry. Work in progress pictures are appreciated, but not mandatory.

If you enter an artwork, you just have to send one image.

The pictures must be sent to: wilhelminiatures@gmail.com

More information:

The entries must be sent before the end of April: Monday 30th of April at midnight Norwegian time (11.00 PM in Great Britain)

Every accepted entry will be posted on the blog. If you want to write a few words about your thoughts on the project, include them in the mail with the pictures, but no more than 300 words.

The best three entries will get some sweet prizes!! The prizes will probably be a gold, silver or bronze statue and a small bag of bits for future conversions.

Good luck everyone!

Dark Imperium: Foetid Bloat Drone

My version of the Foetid Bloat Drone from Dark Imperium is of course based on the Foetid Bloat drone. I'm not the biggest fan of the original miniature, so I had to do a few changes to it. The most important thing to change was the pose. I glued together the main parts of the body and held them over the base, trying to figure out which flying pose I wanted. When I found the pose I liked best, the Drones face was pointing upwards, so I had to replace it. I ended up giving it the head from the Skaven ship from Dreadfleet (you can still see the skaven symbol/scar on the side of the head that I forgot to remove). Now the creature looked a lot like a fish, so I have it fins, using the wings from a Nurgle Plague Drone. The claws are from the same kit.

I painted the Dronething the same way I painted my Poxwalkers (TUTORIAL HERE), washes and glazes over a Corax White undercoat. I also decided to paint the armour black, to contrast the pale flesh. Before I started painting I primed the miniature White, then I covered the flesh with masking tape and sprayed the armour black. The whole miniature was painted in one evening.

The next unit from Dark Imperium will be some black Plague Marines!

Champion of Slaanesh

I converted this miniatures a couple of years ago and I finally got around to paint it. I painted this one for the painting competition the fang. It was painted in one evening. I did the pink with very quick wet blending and glazes.

The model was converted using FW Fulgrims legs, FW Noice Marine head and weapon, Dark Eldar wings, Genestealer ribcage and Bloodreaver abs.

My favourite part of the miniature is the exposed abs. I think it gives him a very Slaaneshi feel.

Here he is beside the Daemon Fulgrim I made a few years ago. It's one of my favourite miniatures.

AoS28: WIP Daemons

I made a Chaos Lord for AoS28 a while ago (LINK). Now he's getting some company. I'm planning to make a small group of Daemons or Possessed Humans to join my AoS28 Chaos Warband. Here are the first two conversions in the pre greenstuff stage.

Tutorial: Poxwalkers Batch Painting, part I

Dark Imperium has motivated me to start a new Nurgle army. It's been a while since I've painted anything for an army. Recently I've been working a lot on miniatures for painting competitions and small warbands. Now its time to paint something quick, dirty and relaxing.

After a few small modifications the Poxwalkers turned out really nice. I did easy conversions on all 20 models.

The conversions I did were pretty simple. I removed the huge horns and tentacles and swapped their limbs around to make every model individual. I filled all gaps and details I didn't like (for exsample the one with the huge tentacled belly wound) with cheap superglue and sealed it with superglue accelerator. I used superglue and baking powder to give the skin a more interesting texture around the parts where I had removed the horns and tentacles.

Painting the Poxwalkers:

I. I've never painted this many models in one batch before. To make the painting more effective I blue tacked the models to strips of cardboard, five on each strip. When painting this many miniatures it's easier to paint four units than 20 individual miniatures.

The Poxwalkers were primed with a layer of Corax White spray.

II. The miniatures were washed with a thin coat of Reikland Fleshshade.

II. Some of the Poxwalkers are wearing pants and jumpsuits. These were painted in a coat of Fuegan Orange. This is just the first of many layers. I painted more layers of this colour while waiting for other steps to dry. You'll get a bright colour after three to four layers.

III. Athonian Camoshade was painted into the shadows and around the boils.

IV. The bases were painted Dryad Bark using a large brush. I painted the same colour on some of the metal parts. I will paint the smaller metal details in the same colour later with a smaller brush.

V. To give the skin more variations and more shadows I used Druchii Violet. This colour was also used on the remaining tentacles and where skin meets clothing.

VI. Carroburg Crimson was used in the same way as Druchii Violet in the previous step, but this time it was concentrated a bit more on tentacles and wounds.

VII. The bases were stippled with Death World Forest.

This is what I've done with the Poxwalkers so far. I've spent three hours painting all 20 miniatures to this stage. I'm not home at the moment, but will be back in a couple of days. I'll try to finish the models and part two of this tutorial next week.

EDIT: I'm finished with all three parts! PART II, PART III

AoS28: Chaos Lord

The Gulliman conversion I've been working on the last week is finished. I entered it in the painting competition today and won!

The model is based on GWs newest plastic Primarch, Robute Gulliman. His head and cape are from FW Mortarion. The shield and loincloth are from the Blightkings. I filed away all the stupid details from Gullimans armour, and moved his legs closer together.

The paintjob was very quick and experimental. I did it all in two evenings. The armour was painted black, and wet blended with black and grey to give it a little contrast. Then I sponged the edges with dessert yellow, followed by an edgehighlight/stippling with pallid flesh. I glazed everything with the green camoshade.
I think the base turned out really great on this one. I wanted something to really contrast the dark armour on the model. I painted the base in brown and red to get an interesting basecoat. Then I added the orangeish rusty water. This was done by adding a pool of orange shade on the base. While the shade was still wet, I randomly added watered down yellow and let the two colours mix naturally. I added gloss varnish to the orange, to give it a watery look.

Desktop of the Week II

This week I've been working more on completing the models for Silver tower. At the moment I'm painting the Kairic Acolytes. I've done some small conversions to make them look different from each other. In the Silver Tower box you get two and two identical models.

Black Pox part VII: The first games of Vortapt IV

Vortapt IV

My Nurgle warband is a part of a larger Chaos campaign with three friends, Vortapt IV. Last weekend we played the first games in the campaign.

Tommy, the writer of the blog Bigbossredskullz, has written six great battle reports, one for each game. Head over to his blog to read them!

I'm too lazy to write a battle report. Instead I'll leave you with a lot of pictures from the event. As you may notice there are a lot of new models in his game. These models will get lightbox pictures and their own post sometime next week.

The games was fantastic! It was a great experience to play using Tommy's homemade rules, great models, awesome terrain and dice made from bone!

The Gameboard

In the different games we used a mix of tiles from Rebecca, Mikkel and my gameboard tiles. These first pictures feature my nine tiles and some new terrain (the houses on poles) I made for the game.

In several games we used a bigger board, made from putting Rebecca and Mikkels Armies on Parade boards together with my tiles.
