AoS28: Monster Competition by Ex Profundis

The results for Ex Profundis' AoS28 Monster Competition were just released. A lot of great entries, you can see the winners HERE. When I saw the post I realised that I haven't posted my entry here yet.

So here it is! A fleshy blob of Chaos!

I painted the base like the Chaos Lord based on Gulliman I made earlier this year. My collection of AoS28 miniatures is slowly growing.

My first Primaris

A couple of months ago, me, Rebecca and Erik/Nordic had a Primaris-off! We decided to use a Primaris Marine from the Dark Imperium box and convert it to our own style. But all of us had to convert and paint miniatures for Tor Megiddo, so the others aren't finished yet. I'll make a post with all the Primaris miniatures when the others are finished.

I wanted my Primaris to still look like a Space Marine, so I didn't convert it much. I just sculpted a few creepy faces on the armour, and gave it a new sword and helmet.

I painted this guy really quickly, but I think it turned out good. The armour was painted by drybrushing several metallic paints over it, and glazing/shading/blending the colours together with sepia and orange shades.

I primed the miniatures before the crackle-paint on the base had dried, so the base lost a lot of texture.  I tried fixing this by painting texture on the base, which actually turned out great!

Armies on Parade 2017: AoS Tzeentch

This year I entered Armies on Parade AoS with my Tzeentch warband. The miniatures are mostly the ones I painted from the Silver Tower boz last year. The only new miniature I painted was a Lord of Change. I really like making terrain, and I'm extremely happy with this display-board.

It's nearly impossible to photograph a display board, but I did my best. This one will probably work best as a backdrop for future miniatures when I take it back home.

Making the board

I used a silicone mould with two different sized faces to make the daemonic faces.

The base is a 50 x 50 cm MDF board. I used polystyrene and expanding foam to make the mountain.

The texture was a mix of wood glue, short pieces of yarn and black paint. I pushed the faces into the wet texture mix.

Dinosaurs and more texture.

More texture and faces.

I primed the board Chaos Black.

I sprayed brown followed by Mephiston Red over the faces, trying to leave the darker colours in the shadows.

I used cheap thick acrylic paints on the ground and between the faces. I tried the best I could to match GWs Death World Forrest which I've used on the miniatures bases.

I shaded the faces with sepia shade, and highlighted them with a light drybrush of Mephiston Red. The eyes where painted black, with white rings in the sentre.

Tor Megiddo, part X

Here are the last two members of my warband; the Leader and a close combat specialist.

Tor Megiddo, part IX, Tech Priest & Robots

Together with my Warband i brought a couple of NPCs for the game: the Abalone Mutant and a Tech-Priest with a couple if robots.

The Tech-Priest was a quite simple conversion. It's based on a Tech-Priest Dominus with Poxwalker and Tyranid arms. The scythe is from a Death Guard upgrade pack from Forge World, and the head is taken from a Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch. I used very stiff guitar strings as cables. The cables coming out from under his robes are the only thing that touches the base, so if you see the miniature from the right angle it really looks like it's hoovering over the ground.

I finished the Tech-Priest the day before I left for Helsinki. So I had to paint it really fast. The robes and arms were painted by quickly building up the highlights with a sponge before applying washes in the recesses. The metals were done with drybrushing, heavy washes and extreme edgehighlights. My favourite part of the miniature is the reflection on the scythe blade. This was done by glazing orange, red and brown GW shades over a light silver colour.

The robots were originally part of my Genestealer Cult project. They were supposed to go with my two larger Babyface-Walkers. I use dark green bases on my Genestealer Cult miniatures. This work really well with the orange and bone colours of my Genestealer Cultists, but not on dark metal robots.  The bright orange desert bases of Tor Megiddo really gave these miniatures a new life!

Tor Megiddo, part VIII, Fast Attack

I finished a lot of my miniatures for Tor Megiddo the days before I left for the game in Helsinki. So I didn't have time to photograph all of them before I left. You've probably seen some of them on pictures from the game on other blogs. But now it's time  for some detailed pictures of my group. I have too many pictures to throw into one post, so I'll spread them out a bit. This post will show the vehicles in my warband; the Bikers and the Tank.

The Bikers are based on a Space Marine Bike and a Chaos SM Bike. I used a lot of crazy bits on these conversions, including a Gorkamorka Mutant head and Robute Gullimans backpack.

The Tank was the craziest conversion I did for Tor Megiddo. It's based on on one of the new Space Dwarves flying boats turned upside down, put on top of a Rhino.
