Risi Vortapt, part II, Blight Drones

I've just finished a few more miniatures for my Nurgle Titanicus Legion; the Blight Drones. In my last post I showed the sculpted unpainted miniatures. If you missed the post, you can read it HERE

I painted these guys quite simple and quick. The white is just a few drybrushes of lighter and ligher grey, finished off with a drybrush of white. The shading and weathering were mostly done with AK-interactive technical paints.

I really enjoyed making these, so I'm planning to make a few similar creations.

Risi Vortapt, part I, introduction

Hello, hellohello

A few months ago, me and a few friends started a new project. You might remember a similar thing we did a couple of years ago, called Vortapt IV. If not, you can find the blog posts HERE. Vortapt IV was a game of four players, each controlling a warband dedicated to one of the four gods of Chaos. To make it interesting and chaotic, we made a randomiser (in MatLab), to pair a player with a god. Back then I got Nurgle, and made a warband of pestigors, known as the Black Pox.

As the previous game turned out great, and making the warbands were a lot of fun, we decided to do it again. But this time the game will be at a quite different scale, as we decided to try it out for the new Specialist Game by GW; Titanicus.

Again we used the randomiser to determine who would make a Legion dedicated to which god. This time I also got Nurgle (obviously, because I'm the Nurgle daddy).

Tommy aka Bigbossredskullz got Tzeentch, and he has also started working on his Titan Legion. The other players haven't started working on their warbands yet, but don't worry, the rest of the gods are in good hands.

The miniatures for Titanicus is fantastic! They're really detailed, and they actually have more different poses that knights in 40k scale.
I've decided to take my Nurgle theme in an underwater direction. Submarine and ship-wreck parts have already been used on my conversions. I picture huge rusty robots coming out of the water, dragging ships, fishnets and seaweeds in their wake.
I always thought the FW blightdrone is a really cool miniature, even though it looks a bit like a flying shrimp. However in this case, flying shrimp actually fits the theme I'm going for. I sculpted five blightdrones (or similar daemon engines) for the group.

The first three Knights and one of the blightdrones are done. The rest will follow soon!

The rest of the Drones and the Warlord Titan are almost ready for paint:

Legen: The Giants #2

The last time I shared a post about the giants for Legen, I hadn't photographed this guy yet. This was an incredibly quick project, as i converted and painted it in one day. I made the miniature while a few of the others completed their warbands for the project.

This miniature is based on an old GW giant that Ana gave to me while I was visiting. The mutated left arm and the lower part of the giants face were sculpted.
The painting progress was quite quick and flat, but I think it works as it's a huge miniature with lots of flat skin areas. I do however think I would work a bit more on the on the shadow areas if I were to do it again. The other two Giants have a lot more variation in their skin-tones, and more depth.

The next project I'm working on is the new Specialist Game: Titanicus!

Remember that I update my miniature instagram more regularly, so you should keep an eye on it. You can find a link on the bottom of this page!

LEGEN: The Unnamed Knight and her Retinue

Time for another Legen-post. This time I'll show you my Knight and her Retinue. I've been playing some Dark Souls III recently and really wanted to create an anonymous dark looking knight.

The Unnamed Knight

The Unnamed knight was based on a Forge World Death Korps of Krieg rider. This miniature is one of the best mounted characters GW/FW have ever produced. Both the horse and rider are very nicely proportioned, and really detailed. I removed all the 40k details, and swapped some of them for fantasy bits. The horse got a Skeleton Knight armour and a sculpted helmet. The Knights helmed came from Perry Miniatures. Perry Miniatures are a lot smaller than the regular GW miniature. But GW miniatures often have small heads, so it actually worked really well. The swords in the ground came from skeleton warriors. The blades are originally really thick, so I trimmed them down with a scalpel, and added rust texture with Typhus Corrosion.

The Mage

The Mage was a really simple conversion. I only had to sculpt over the eye on top of his staff. The base miniature was a 40k Imperial Guard advisor, an Astropath I think. I love how tiny this guy is!

The Pikeman

The Pikeman was a quite simple conversion. I used a Bretonnia Men-at-Arms body, arms from Perry Miniatures: War of the Roses and a head from an Electro-Priest from the Mechanicus range. The head and body is a lot smaller than a regular GW human, so the small Perry Miniatures armes fit perfectly.

The Archer

The Archer is a straight from the box Perry Miniatures: War of the Roses Infantry miniature. Her body is a lot narrower than the Men-at-Arms bodies. This makes her look like a woman when she stands beside the pikeman.

The Swords of the Fallen

The Swords of the Fallen is a spellmarker I made for my Mage. He can make swords of fallen heroes fall from the skies and smite his enemies. In the end of the game, this spell took out the Giant leader, Nerod.
